by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Hecker, Conference Chairman
The Inertial Sensors and Systems 2018 was held in Braunschweig, Germany at 11 and 12 September 2018.
For the 1st time the international conference “Inertial Sensors and Systems” took place in Braunschweig, Germany, organized by the “Institute of Flight Guidance (IFF)” together with the “German Institute of Navigation (DGON)”, cosponsored by the “Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN)” and by the “IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS)”.
The main aim of the conference was to provide a neutral forum for discussion and networking of competing companies, governmental decision makers as well as research institutions in the field of inertial sensors and multisensory navigation systems. The members of the program committee covered university as well as relevant German sensors and systems companies: Dr. T. Erler, Sagem Navigation; Dr. E. von Hinüber, IMAR; Dr. W. Geiger, Robert Bosch GmbH; T. Löffler, Diehl BGT Defence; Dr. S. Zimmermann, Northrop Grumman Litef; and Prof. J. Wagner, University of Stuttgart.
22 technical papers from 15 nations out of 44 paper submissions were presented, covering Accelerometers, MEMS Gyroscopes, Vibrating Gyroscopes, Fibre Optic Gyroscopes, Sensor Fusion, Certification and Testing, and Inertial Systems Applications.
A total of approximately 200 visitors from 23 nations, underscores the international recognition of this conference.
The 55th international conference “Inertial Sensors and Systems” took place in Braunschweig Germany for the first time in September 2018. This conference, with its long-standing tradition, was held in Karlsruhe for more than ten years by Prof. Dr. habil. Gert Trommer and his team from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The new place was selected due to the retirement of Prof. Trommer. The new conference chair is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Hecker, the managing director of the Institute of Flight Guidance (IFF) at the Technische Universität Braunschweig.
So finally I would like to express my deep gratitude to the program committee for selecting the high level papers, to the staff of the “Institute of Flight Guidance IFF” for their technical and logistic support, and the organization of this successful conference.
The next conference “Inertial Sensors and Systems” will take place in Braunschweig, from 10 to 11 September 2019.
