by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Gert F. Trommer, Conference Chairman
The Inertial Sensors and Systems 2016 was held in Karlsruhe, Germany at 20 and 21 September 2016.
For the 10th time the international conference “Inertial Sensors and Systems" took place in Karlsruhe, Germany, organized by the “Institute of Systems Optimization (ITE)” together with the “German Institute of Navigation (DGON)”, cosponsored by the “Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN)” and by the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS).
The aim of our conference was twofold: first to offer high quality presentations, but most important to provide a neutral forum for networking of representatives of industry, governmental institutions and academia.
The members of the program committee covered university as well as relevant German sensors and systems companies: Dr. T. Erler, Sagem Navigation; Dr. E. von Hinüber, IMAR; Dr. W. Geiger, Robert Bosch GmbH; T. Löffler, Diehl BGT Defence; Dr. S. Zimmermann, Northrop Grumman Litef; and Prof. J. Wagner, University of Stuttgart.
This year Dr. T. Erler from Sagem Navigation served for the first time as member of the program committee. With him the committee gathered a perfect successor for the 2015 retired Dr. W. Auch.
20 technical papers from 7 nations out of 53 paper submissions were presented, covering accelerometers, MEMS sensors, vibrating gyroscopes, fiber optic gyroscopes, inertial sensor fusion, inertial systems applications and finally simulation and testing.
I would like to express my deep gratitude to the program committee for selecting the high level papers, to the staff of the “Institute of Systems Optimization ITE” for their highly motivated technical and logistic support, and especially to the conference manager Dr. A. Teltschik for the perfect organization of this successful conference.
The next conference “Inertial Sensors and Systems” will be take place again in Karlsruhe from 19 to 20 September 2017.
